|He began showing interests in
medicinal plants since 1995 but never got very seriously involved in it
until after his marriage to Dayang in 2000. The first medicinal plant
he was introduced to was called Hempedu Bumi or Andrographis
paniculata, Nees. Surprisingly this is the very plant that did wonders
his wife. It treated and continues to treat her of most of her common
complaints from influenza
to bodyaches and headaches.
Since then the collection had grown
and never stopped growing
from one to more than 500 now. At the peak of his collection he had
some 700 plants of different species. That initial collection was given
to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia as the starter collection for their
Herb Garden in their campus in Bangi. The current collection comprise
of those missed by UKM, when they came and took 6 3-ton lorry loads of
our plants, and new collections. The collection includes plants
considered as weeds by most to the more exotic plants from the fringes
the rainforests of Malaysia.
The pages that follows are just an
overview of the collections and what you can see when you visit him for
his scheduled walks.
This collection of plants has been
acknowledged by various authorities as being amongst the more
exhaustive and finest in the country. Those who have seen them are
amazed by the collection as some of the plants are considered rare
today in this part of the world. Thus, it is never an exhausting effort
one humble individual to ensure that these medicinal plant herittage of
Malaysians live on for the furute generation.
